With every new season comes a juggling of my fragrances. Much like an NBA coach shifting the staring lineup, you need to mix and match a little to find that sweet spot. Winter is home to rich scents while summer is made for light and refreshing ones. But then you also have to take into account that there are fragrances more suitable for daytime….and others for evening. If you’re now thinking “my God Daniel, are you kidding?”, you’re not the only one. I too thought once that hey a cologne is a cologne! But it’s a real thing. Listen, having a day and night scent isn’t going to make you a better man but it will make you a more refined one.

So here’s the thing with fragrances; while there are hundreds of amazing ones on shelves everywhere, it’s important to be consistent. If you find one that truly embodies you, stick to it. You know what they say, the sense of smell is the strongest and it’s the sense that initiates memory the most. Having a signature scent is important much like your personal style. Be effortless, but memorable.

Now is wearing a fragrance effortless? It’s a fine line in my opinion and one that should be consciously walked on the right side. One always wants to smell great but there is just something lame about a grown man who walks into an elevator and their cologne overpowers the space. There’s something about a man that has bathed in cologne that is somewhat un-masculine to me. I think your scent should be gentle and essentially only picked up to others that are close. Nuzzled up in your neck or a friendly hug kind of close. It makes your scent more natural and well, more effortless in a way.

2 | Yves Saint Laurent – L’Homme BUY HERE

One of my all-time favourites. L’Homme is simply one of the most balanced fragrances that is subtle but luxurious. Like many of Calvin Klein’s fragrances, this is a perfect scent for all times of day. With cedar, white ginger, basil flower and tonic bean notes, L’Homme screams sensuality and intrigue. Simply put, one of the safest buys that will take your style to a YSL worthy level. Best place to buy? HERE

3 | Tom Ford – Neroli Portofino BUY HERE

A daytime fragrance through and through, this scent from Tom Ford is an extension of the beach. I’ll be honest, I like floral based scents and Neroli Portofino embodies it alongside citrus notes. When I open the bottle, it immediately reminds me of the beach. like sun kissed skin fresh out of the ocean. The composition includes Italian Bergamot, Sicilian Lemon, Winter Yellow Mandarin, Orange Flower and Lavender. Best place to buy? HERE

4 | Hugo Boss – Bottled BUY HERE

Like the name itself, this fragrance is the sophistication and sportiness of Hugo Boss wrapped into one beautiful bottle. I’m going to quote Hugo Boss on this when I say BOSS Bottled has an initial fresh and fruity impression balanced with warm and flowery middle notes dominated by geraniums and a dab of clove. The masculine base notes of sandalwood, cedar wood and vetiver create a lasting harmony. It’s the perfect way to describe this fragrance and like L’Homme, a great buy for all occasions. The new kid on the block for me. Released last year, Code quickly became my favourite new scent and the PERFECT evening choice. With a copper hue and bottle cap and top notes of green mandarin, green apple and cardamom; middle notes are orange blossom, lavender and nutmeg; base notes are tonka bean, amber and leather. There’s just something about this fragrance that is magnetic and sexy. Best place to buy? HERE
