It’s a fitting weekend in Toronto to break out my parka and share my experience being introduced to Canada Goose‘s brand new, inaugural flagship store at Yorkdale Shopping Centre. I’ll be honest, it took 30 years of my life to finally realize that I needed to upgrade my winter-wear beyond wool topcoats and basic layering. I always somehow convinced myself that I didn’t need a down-filled parka to get me through winters. Maybe I just convinced myself that they just weren’t fashionable enough…Whatever the heck I was thinking, I eventually saw the light last winter. I added a Canada Goose 3/4 length parka to my outerwear rotation and was immediately a believer. Walks with Junior in the windy park became a breeze, night outs to the movies were no big deal and the best part I found, I could still wear a lightweight shirt to dinner, something I ACTUALLY wanted to wear and could brave the cold to and from with just one layer, my Goose.
As we are now on the cusp of another winter, I am now onto my third jacket from Canada Goose. I added a Hybridge Lite Jacket which is truly a remarkable jacket to layer underneath a heavier overcoat or by itself on errand day or to the gym. I just recently picked up the Pritchard Parka for that next level cold. That polar vortex kinda cold that us Canadians are way too familiar with and you international folk ought to be scared of like the boogie man under the bed. Except you Russians, you get some damn cold temps too. And northern Americans…you feel me. I was immediately drawn to the diamond quilting that gave it a really unique look that I just hadn’t seen before in a heavyweight parka. Beyond the wicked styling of the jacket and the entire Canada Goose collection at that, I respect and admire the brand. As I get a little older in life, as my style and tastes matures, I find myself being drawn to brands with a history. Brands that aren’t in the business of mindlessly funnelling product out of their factory for the masses to consume but rather a brand that lives and breathes craftsmanship. Quality. Refined pieces that make a man not just look handsome but feel it. We all feel terrific when we wear well made pieces. It also feels good to wear and support a 100% Canadian home-grown brand. We are more than a deep well of hockey players and curlers. Canada has style.
OK so if you’re sitting in bed sipping a cappuccino and thinking, “maybe I’m starting to see this parka light thing and ready to make the jump” or you’re a parka vet and you’re just ready to treat yourself with a freshie this winter. Or feel like being an epic Santa Clause this year and getting your little honeybear at home an epic gift this holiday season. Well there’s now only one shop to go to. This has been a LONG time coming and it’s exciting to see Canada Goose break free and introduce a dedicated store to shop their collection. No more department stores or boutique stores with a minimal selection. We are talking a Canada Goose parka heaven with a vault of every single style available in every cut and colour. A shop with stunning aesthetics, cozy and chic seating, marble finishes and Instagram worthy decor celebrating everything Canadian. It’s a 4,500 square foot wonderland so props to Goose for designing such a wicked space. When you want a Porsche, you go right to the Porsche dealer. When you want a MacBook, you got to Apple. When you’re ready to shop for your new winter warrior, go straight to the source. It’s a different kind of experience and I absolutely recommend it.
I attended the launch party last week, sipped Moet being served on a massive ice sculpture and went home with my Pritchard Parka. I woke up Saturday morning to our first day in the city with temps below 10 degrees, unzipped my new baby from it’s garment bag and hit the coffee shop to meet my buddy @DustinCarrington. We chatted, went through two cappuccinos and hit Queen West to shop. Oh and you better believe we stopped to christen my new camera with a little street style. Here’s the look!
